MLitt Fine Art Practice School of Fine Art

Selcuk Colakoglu

My practice stems from a deep interest in the technology of printmaking and its function not only in fine art but also in culture, society and mass media. By incorporating the materials of printmaking into the work itself, such as exposed photo-lithography plates and screenprinting photo-emulsion, I want to highlight the importance of process in my practice.

I’m interested in the relationship between print and the body; the idea of multiples/copies coming from an original or matrix. Loosely biographical, the work revolves around a sense of poetry & philosophy; referencing memory, life and loss.

Often, ambiguous images from various media sources are recontextualised through printmaking to suggest narrative or a loose framework for thinking. Material, colour and scale are important; my primary aim is for the work to function on a visceral level, first and foremost.
