Kano Hashida (she/her)

I have a deep appreciation for the values of accessible design, especially designs inclusive of people whose lives are challenged by societal expectations.

Endo in the Office
Endometriosis awareness is low in Japan, and the current system for help is not working. Japanese culture and peer pressure are cited as reasons why endometriosis care is not considered necessary. These will limit the range of options available to students with endometriosis when they are looking for work or considering a career. It is therefore important for companies that are heavily involved in this matter to take pioneering action.
My project will design a workplace kit-of-parts to improve the Quality-of-Life of graduate employees in Japan, focusing on women with endometriosis. Companies will provide medical offices and nurses, rename menstrual leave, support employees taking it, and promote it to job-seekers. This will extend kit-of-parts beyond the workplace and into society.

Police Scotland – Case Updater
In response to our brief exploring the role of a modern Scottish police service, our group investigated the process a victim undertakes after reporting a crime. We created a Police Scotland case updater; an online service to be provided by Police Scotland to support victims. Here they would be able to find updates on their existing cases, guides and examples from previous cases, and support resources. They could also use this platform to get in touch with their investigating officer, ask questions, or provide feedback. Our aim being to improve the experience, knowledge, and autonomy of a victim in a vulnerable situation, the budget and efficiency of Police Scotland, and the trust, confidence, and relationship between the two.
