Miao Zhang (Miao)

I am an experimental interior designer with a strong interest in giving new meaning and function to existing spaces. I have guided myself and recognised my further direction through the works on various projects, from small-scale products to large-scale public and private spaces. To extend the opportunity to think creatively while challenging the possibility of creating a narrative within a limited space. I am also fascinated by the versatility that projects can display, even during the project’s research phase.

My project proposal focuses on the flexible persuasion that an interactive space could provide to reduce unnecessary contact with communicational technology, like mobile phones. In the information age, communicational technology has directly and potentially impacted human beings regarding social mentality and personal health. The motivation is to identify and improve the worldwide social issue of people relying significantly on technology and having problems with “modern drugs”. To study the possibility of advancing the field of study through theoretical research and divergent thinking, designing a space which can be a transitional “addiction treatment centre” to experience “technology-free” time. Consider self-awareness as the research subject to challenge the embodied space where technology is the research background, further developing research expectations in the project.
