MLitt Curatorial Practice School of Fine Art

Valeria Nuyanzina

Valeria is a curator, architectural designer and artist currently based in Glasgow. Finding meaning in community building, Valeria values collaborations across disciplines. Her practice encompasses various modes of storytelling through play, active listening and making as methods of engaging with narratives. Coming from a background in architecture Valeria explores the effect spaces and places have on embodied modes of perception as well as spatial possibilities to foster imagination and co-creation.

Curatorial Statement: Coming from architecture and art backgrounds, my curatorial practice focuses on exploring topics of myth and narrative elements, phenomenology and perception of space. I believe genuine community engagement can be embraced through empathy in the slow building of relationships in a place, with gesture and inquiry. I am fascinated by the creative process – the metamorphosis of material and meaning. I believe the active listening and acknowledgement of each other contributes to our modes of being in a place as communities, as well as how accountable we feel to take care of the places we inhabit.
