Escapism

Escapism

The project was inspired by many people coming out to the park and enjoying the sun when the weather was good. The fact that people enjoy the sun certainly positively affects people physically and emotionally, but unfortunately, there are not many days to enjoy the sun in Glasgow. Nevertheless, what if we could experience the emotions and feelings like a sunny day inside? The project investigated whether people can be affected positive emotional effects of the sun and if they can feel similar vibes when it’s a sunny day in the newly designed space. In the long run, this place could be a healing space for people in Glasgow. Also, this project considered creating an atmosphere of outside to inside as an interiority perspective. The study suggests a healing place for people in Glasgow during winter. Therefore, people living in Glasgow can enjoy the feeling and experience like they are under the sun despite its bad weather.

Why Escapism?

It is time to enjoy the sunny day and escape from a rainy and cloudy day!

The concept of the project is escapism. The reason is this project suggests a space for people in Scotland to enjoy the sunny day atmosphere during the winter.

As people walk through space, they can check the time of space by seeing the colour changes of the thin curtains. On sunny days, we can see beautiful sunrise and sunset. Curtains are installed inspired by sunset and sunrise. Thin-coloured curtains are installed on the ceiling so that visitors could view the space through the curtains

Under the tree

It is a space with a board for making shadows. As people walk through the area, they feel like they are walking under a tree. Shadow plates are installed on floors and ceilings. The plates installed on the floor are fixed, and the plate installed on the ceiling rotates slowly. As the shadows overlap as the plates rotate, people can feel the movement of the shadows more vividly

The Green place for you

The Green place for you

A small hill covered with grass is installed in the middle of this space. I was inspired to see people lie down in the park and spend time sitting down on a sunny day. After people enjoy the time in the shadow space, bright lighting and huge lawn lead people to come to spend time sitting or lying down. The grass space is with the smell of nature created for the area so that people can enjoy it more interestingly. In addition, the lighting with the same Kelvin as the sun is installed in this space, so you can feel strongly about spending time outdoors.
