Xuan Gu

My name is Xuan Gu, from China. Major in interior design. I believe that interior design is to create an interior environment with reasonable functions and meeting the needs of people’s material and spiritual life by using technical methods and design principles according to the use nature and environment of the building. The study of my project is biased towards exploring the impact of interior space on human psychology and behavior. Environmental psychology believes that the environment and human behavior are interrelated and interact with each other. Different media in interior spaces can influence people’s emotions and psychological changes, and can even change their behavior and cognition.

RESONATE
The human body is like a symphony of strings, with our cells, organs and tissues vibrating. Billions of frequencies interact and resonate within us, while these vibrations interact with what is happening in our environment. Sound is produced by vibration, and the harmonious sounds and vibrations that fill our external world can influence and change our internal vibrations, thus affecting our behavior, perception and emotions.
This project focuses on the social anxiety disorder of today’s youth and their mental health such as anxiety, loneliness and fear. Through the existing treatment effects of ‘exposure therapy’ and ‘sound therapy’ for mental health problems, natural sounds are introduced into the interior space. The functional areas of the space and the route of the visitors are planned according to the ‘exposure therapy’ to alleviate and regulate the negative emotions of people with social anxiety.
Through literature research, case study, interviews and speeches as research methods. Reading papers on mental health, social anxiety, music therapy, exposure therapy. Analysis of relevant case studies. Exploring how to plan spatial structures and activity routes, as well as assisted healing through natural sounds, to help people with social anxiety reduce their fears and anxieties when exposed to public spaces.
The expected outcome is to restore people’s psychological state through different behavioral approaches, such as private spaces, meditation spaces, interactive installations, etc. This will increase people’s excitement about social activities by making them more active in the space, depending on the length of time they have been in the space. A more comfortable interior public space for socially anxious people.
