I am a graphic designer with a previous background in interior design. During my time here at The Glasgow School of Art, I have focused on information visualisation and the simplification of graphic forms. My self-directed project work is informed by in-depth research and utilizes various techniques such astypography, information analysis, graphic production and printing techniques to reach sympathetic visual response.
Feng Shui society conference identity design
This project is a visual identity design for an educational conference to inform the application of Feng Shui in the home. Using the five elements of Feng Shui in traditional Chinese culture, I have produced simple pattern compositions to signify a balanced relationship between shape and colour which is then applied to a range of outputs. This simple, textural response for the conference hopes to be informative for a public event whilst signaling to the attendees how to arrange the furniture in their home to achieve a balanced and comfortable living environment.
Procrastination calendar
This project show how I spent the week before the deadline. I was very pressed for time before each submission, and after visualizing what I did each day it was clear that I was not allocating reasonable time to tasks and work. This visualization of schedule information serves as a reminder of the importance of my own scheduling and self-discipline.
Relationship map of “Stray Birds”
I brought a book of selected poems by Rabindranath Tagore from China, and in my spare time reading it I found many words for objects appearing in the book, objects that sometimes denote themselves in the poems and sometimes are given other meanings. Thinking back to the poems I used to recite as a student, Chinese poets would also use objects to express emotions in their poems, for example, the moon to indicate longing for one’s homeland and red beans to indicate longing for a lover. I thought that an infographic representation of an author’s poetry collection would give a visual representation of the author’s style, as well as the main ideas, and preferences of his work.
Popular plants living map infographic
This design was born out of my love for raising plants and I found that many people buy plants that are not well adapted to the human environment, due to the different growing conditions, and also that buying plants from other regions creates more carbon emissions. With this diagram I hope to make people aware of the fact that plants are far from their native environment.
